Send a STEP file and a drawing with tolerances. Without tolerances we will quote the cheapest interpretation, which is rarely the part you wanted.
What we source in this category
3 and 5 axis CNC machining, turning, sheet metal and laser cutting, injection moulding, die casting, carbon fibre layup, and finishing including anodising, passivation and powder coat.
What a quotable drawing needs
- STEP file plus a 2D drawing as PDF
- Material specified exactly, for example 7075-T6 rather than “aluminium”
- Critical tolerances called out. Everything else gets the general tolerance block
- Surface finish and treatment, including which faces must be masked
- Threads specified with class of fit
- Quantity, and whether this is a one-off or the first of a run
The single most common cause of a bad first CNC order is a drawing with no tolerance block. The factory will machine to whatever is fastest and cheapest, and they are not wrong to do so. We will tell you before quoting if your drawing has this problem.
